How We Score Dubai Beach Clubs

Transparent methodology. Independent editorial review. Eight scoring dimensions based on personal visits across every season.

Every rating on this site is based on personal visits by our team. We do not accept payment for rankings, and we never have. Our scores reflect our honest, independent assessment of each venue, updated regularly as venues evolve.

We believe beach club guidance should be transparent, comparable, and trustworthy. That's why we've published this methodology so you can understand exactly how we rate venues — and hold us accountable if we get it wrong.

Our 8 Scoring Dimensions

Every venue is evaluated across these criteria, each weighted by importance

20% Weighting

Pool & Beach Quality

The visual and functional appeal of the water, cleanliness standards, size relative to capacity, facilities (loungers, shade structures), water temperature and quality, and upkeep of surrounding areas.

18% Weighting

Value for Money

Entry price relative to Dubai market standards, minimum spend fairness, what you actually get for the cost, quality of included amenities, and whether drinks/food pricing feels proportional to quality.

15% Weighting

Food & Beverage

Menu range and quality, kitchen execution, consistency across visits, signature dish quality, bar knowledge, cocktail quality, and fairness of pricing relative to food/drink standards.

12% Weighting

Service & Staff

Attentiveness and responsiveness, menu knowledge, handling of special requests, pace of service, friendliness without being overbearing, and overall hospitality orientation.

Atmosphere & Crowd

Does the vibe match the venue's positioning and marketing? Music selection and volume. Age/demographic mix of attendees. General energy level. Crowd behavior and noise levels relative to venue type.

8% Weighting

Location & Access

Proximity to residential areas and hotels, parking availability and cost, public transport options and walking distance, ease of navigation to the venue, and general accessibility.

Facilities & Amenities

Quality of changing rooms and bathrooms, locker security, availability of free towels, WiFi reliability, shade provision, temperature of showers, and thoughtful touches (sunscreen, ice water, etc.).

7% Weighting

Instagram vs Reality

How closely the real, unfiltered experience matches the marketing photos and social media positioning. We penalize venues that significantly overstate or misrepresent their offering.

Our Rating Scale

What each score means in practical terms

Rating Range Category What It Means
9.0 – 10.0 World Class Exceptional venue that excels across all dimensions. Worth the journey and the premium price. A genuine highlight.
8.0 – 8.9 Excellent Strong venue that delivers on its promise. Highly recommended with few meaningful compromises.
7.0 – 7.9 Good Solid venue that works well for specific use cases. Worth visiting but has some notable gaps or trade-offs.
6.0 – 6.9 Average Venue delivers a functional experience but lacks distinctive appeal or has meaningful weaknesses.
Below 6.0 Below Standard Venue has significant issues in quality, value, or service. We rarely rate this low but we will if it's warranted.

Our Visit & Review Process

How we build our ratings

Personal Visits

Our team visits each venue independently and unannounced, without comp arrangements or special treatment. We visit as regular day-pass customers.

Multiple Seasons

We revisit venues during different seasons (summer vs. winter), different days of the week, and different times of day to capture seasonal variation.

Detailed Assessment

We score each dimension independently, write detailed notes, and compare against other venues in the same category to calibrate our ratings.

Ongoing Updates

When venues make significant changes — new pools, menu overhauls, management changes — we revisit and update our scores accordingly.

What We Explicitly Don't Score

Celebrity Factor & Exclusivity

We don't award points for which celebrities or influencers frequent a venue. A venue's standing in Dubai's social scene is not our concern — the quality of your day is.

Social Media Following

A venue with 500,000 Instagram followers doesn't get bonus points. A venue with a smaller but engaged community doesn't get penalized. We score experience, not hype.

Brand Prestige

It doesn't matter whether the venue is part of a luxury hotel chain or an independent operator. We judge it on its own merits, not the brand behind it.

Price Alone

We don't penalize premium venues simply for being expensive, nor do we automatically reward budget venues. Value is relative to what you get — that's what we measure.

What Happens When Venues Change

Venues evolve. New pools are built, menus are redesigned, management changes, or service quality shifts. When this happens, we revisit and update our ratings. If your favorite venue drops in our rankings, it's because something genuinely changed, not because we have an agenda.
